Holly man by Walter Crane

'Heigh-ho! sing heigh-ho! unto the green holly'! Words are from Shakespeare's play As you like it (Act 2, Scene 7: The forest) and refer to holly's life-giving power even in the harshness of winter. They also inspired Walter Crane to make this delightful watercolor painting of a 'holly man' (Holly, Flowers from Shakespeare's Garden, c. 1906)
