Rossetti, Regina Cordium (Alexa Wilding)1866

Designs inspired by a painting by English Pre-Raphaelite artist Dante Gabriel Rossetti (Regina Cordium, 1866). The model is Alexa Wilding, who frequently appeared in Rossetti's works from the spring of 1865 onwards. The Latin title means The queen of hearts, as in playing cards. At this time, the second half of the nineteenth century, many artists were thinking about the two dimensional quality of a picture and wanted to let that quality be apparent in their art.
