St. George's Shield and Roses COLLECTION

The symbol is an old one. In the Middle Ages, representations of Saint George as a crusader knight depicted him bearing such shields with red-on-white crosses. + Red roses are a traditional gift on St. George's Day (April 23). The red color of the flowers complements the red cross of St. George's Shield and Flag.
