William Morris: The Strawberry Thief Pattern

The English designer William Morris (1834-1896) created the winsome "Strawberry Thief" pattern in 1883. The rendition with blues predominant comes from a length of plain weave cotton manufactured in the early 20th century, in the collection of the Cleveland Art Institute (https://www.clevelandart.org/art/1937.696). The rendition with greens predominant comes from a reproduction in the book, The Art of William Morris (1834-1896), by Aylmer Vallance, published in London by Chiswick Press in 1897, in the collection of the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute Library (https://archive.org/details/artofwilliammorr00vall).
