Saint Francis de Sales Bishop of Geneva Sokken

Saint Francis de Sales Bishop of Geneva Sokken

A serene and inspiring portrayal of Saint Francis de Sales (1567–1622), Bishop of Geneva, Doctor of the Church, and one of the most influential spiritual writers of the Catholic tradition. According to Vatican News, Francis was born into a noble Savoyard family and received an exceptional education in Paris and Padua, where he earned a doctorate in law before choosing the priesthood. As bishop, he became renowned for his gentle pastoral approach, his tireless work in reconciling communities divided by the Reformation, and his mission to re‑evangelize the Chablais region. His writings — especially Introduction to the Devout Life (Filotea) and Treatise on the Love of God (Teotimo) — shaped Christian spirituality for centuries and remain classics of devotional literature. Canonized in 1665, he was later proclaimed Doctor of the Church and named patron of journalists, writers, and the Catholic press, thanks to his innovative use of printed leaflets to communicate the faith. His feast is celebrated on 24 January. Perfect for devotional art, educational materials, church publications, and designs celebrating Christian spirituality and gentle leadership.
