Batikan Designs

I have lived in Indonesia for the past 2 years and love its beautiful people, the traditional batik fabric and the stunning array of fish in the tropical waters surrounding this archipelago. I started playing with illustrations of fish (ikan in the Indonesian language) covered in batik-inspired designs. Batik is an incredible wax-resist dying technique used to produced the endless variety of colorful and beautiful fabric that Indonesia is known for. I was inspired to create illustrations blending the infinite shapes and colors of reef fish with the equally infinite designs and patterns used in batik technique. Enjoy!
