EsperanzaEnterprises, Inc. is a DISABILITY ADVOCACY and SUPPORT SERVICES ORGANIZATION. Our plan was (is) to START OUT SMALL and BUILD BIG. In this light EsperanzaEnterprises, began as a home based business offering INFORMATION and REFERRAL SERVICES for and about People with Disabilities. Additionally we prepared INFORMATIONAL BOOKLETS concerning ADVOCACY and SUPPORT ISSUES. These booklets were distributed largely through mail order though some were handed out at Disability Conferences and Support Groups attended by the company President, Peg Meerkatz. Before EsperanzaEnterprises could progress, further Hurricane Sandy came to New York, leaving in its wake a path of destruction not seen in this area in hundreds of years. Ms. Meerkatz lived in Lido Towers, in Lido Beach New York with her 83-year-old mother. Their first floor condominium was obliterated. Water lines surged to an estimated 10 feet. Ms. Meerkatz lost all of her personal belongings as well as everything pertaining to the business; computers, printers, fax machine, postal equipment and supplies, promotional items… Ms. Meerkatz returned to the condo unit about 2 weeks to see what if anything could be retrieved. She was able to take notebooks, which contained operation information, financial plans etc. Some of these notes were unreadable as the ink ran in the water, others she was able to dry out. Using these notes and having some, business information saved on a CLOUD Computer System Ms. Meerkatz has struggled to rebuild. It is anticipated that within the next few months a strong Board of Directors will be formed that will lead EsperanzaEnterprises onto its previous goals. Fundraising will be a major task of the Board and they will also be choosing the Advisory Board. The Advisory Board will be responsible for sight selection (EsperanzaEnterprises cannot continue to operate as a home business) and overseeing Construction and Development. The first phase of development will be selecting a site for THE EsperanzaEnterprises CARING COMMUNITY; an eclectic community recreation center for Physically Disabled and Chronically Ill Adults ages 18 to 64 years old. The community recreation center will provide not just recreational Services but a variety of support Services to this population. The Board of Directors and Advisory Board will also operate out of this site. The ultimate goal for EsperanzaEnterprises is to create what will be known as the EsperanzaEnterprises ABILITIES CAMPUS. This will be a fully accessible, multi-faceted site providing not just Advocacy and Support for Physically Disabled and Chronically Ill Adults ages 18 to 64 but a variety of housing options, medical care, and a skilled nursing facility.
