Sometimes I feel like a cultural archeologist - peeling back layers of modern life to discover a different time in our recent past. It’s fascinating, exciting and sometimes revealing. I’ve always been interested in history. I never thought it was something I could capture until I picked up a camera. What I’ve realized I’m doing with this vintage sign obsession of mine is that I’m trying to preserve some of these signs, because they’re being torn down at an alarming rate. And maybe through this process, I can help revive or at least, keep alive, this art form. These signs tell us stories if we’re willing to listen. They speak to us of a simpler time. When motel owners could lure weary motorists with the promise of TV in Rooms and Tubs and Showers! These old motels, bars, bowling alleys and coffee shops helped define and give character to their towns and I hope to capture some of that character in my products.
